In the Spring of 2023, I created a pamphlet for a colleague attending the North American Hockey Championship in Winnipeg, Canada. We had the goal of using our understanding of analytics in hockey to provide evidence that analytics aren't only about winning, but also about the athlete's education.
Oftentimes, analytics are used to determine if a player is performing to their capabilities. Instead, this pamphlet aimed to demonstrate that analytics also show growth in a player. On teams that do not see much tangible success, analytics helps serve as a guide for progress in ways that the scoreboard never could.
This pamphlet also contains resources on how to track analytics. This allows parents and young hockey players alike to gain access to data tracking sheets. Using these sheets, parents and young hockey players will be able to learn the basics of analytics.
